As a surprise to no one, more and more crypto billionaires are joining the rich club. In fact, the total number of crypto billionaires had over 60% increase in only one year. Naturally, leading industry executives and founders are on the list and the top dog has remained unchanged. So, without further ado, let’s take a look at Forbes annual list and daydream about how we would live our lives if we were crypto billionaires.
19 Crypto Billionaires
As of now, there are 19 people who are on Forbes, crypto-rich list as of 2022. The recent update has added seven new additions to the list which is a 58% increase over the last year.
As for who’s on top, the man, the myth and of course the inspiration source for all crypto currencies “CZ” Zhao is the numero uno. The Binance CEO and founder is the richest man in crypto industry and the 19th richest in the world. Honestly, as rookie as the overall rank sounds, his portfolio has the potential to reach the top 5. That being said, Zhao had a downgrade from $96 billion last year to a pathetic $64 billion this year. Other than that, he still remains as one of the most influential personalities in the crypto sector.
As for the silver medal, FTX founder and CEO Sam Bankman-Fried is living his best life with an estimated $24 billion net worth. Despite his noble expressions on how he wishes to give it all away, I still haven’t received a dime. So maybe, the robinhood of crypto is taking a rain check for the time being.
The third spot goes to Coinbase CEO and founder Brian Armstrong with $6.6 billion. Chris Larsen from Ripple and Winklevoss twins from Gemini are further down the list with around $4 billion.
How Does One Join the List?
Exchange apps and token marketplaces have pretty much dominated the top spots. OpenSea NFT Marketplace co-founders Alex Atallah and Devin Finzer are newcomers to the list. Following a super successful year, they each managed to accumulate about $2.2 billion apiece.
FTX co-founder and chief technology officer Gary Wang is also a new addition with a net worth of $5.6 billion. The Web3 and Blockchain company Alchemy paid back its co-founders Joseph Lau and Nikil Viswanathan with $2.4 billion each.
As for international personalities, South Korea’s Upbit exchange rewarded its founder with $4.7 billion.
Finally, we have to talk about Michael Saylor. Long story short, he is still on the list after betting his life on Bitcoin. In fact, his investment paid off big time despite all the roadblocks coming his way.
Originally, Forbes started the crypto elite list back in 2018 when Trump was just two years in the office. Remember those days?
